Owls well that ends well

I made it!....yes, 21 posts in April, I took it to the wire though, with it being the last day. It's really been a boost to my blogging and led me to discover the fun of app scrapping... something I'll definitely be carrying on with. So, a big shout out to my fellow 2peasrefugees, thanks for coming up with the challenge and being kind enough to visit and comment. Now, the question is should I try for the May challenge of 15 posts? Maybe, I'll think on it and decide tomorrow.

As mentioned the app scrapping has been a big hit with me and no surprise my last post of the month is another app layout, this one not put together on the bus... just for a change it was on the sofa.

Yes, it's another animal layout. This time the photos are from Tropical Wings flying show. I love these kind of days out and I'd only recently acquired my DSLR, so they are not all perfect pics, but I think they still work in this format. I have scrapped the top left corner photo with papers from the Santoro Gorjuss range too, this was on a previous post and to save you looking, here it is again:

Thanks for stopping by and joining in the April Challenge.

Coco loves Ray

Woohoo!......bank holiday weekend and I couldn't wait to get home to start the break...judging by the traffic everyone else felt the same way.

Today's offering is another Project Life app layout, courtesy of this morning's bus journey to work. My mum and dad have three dogs and this shows just one of them, gorgeous Coco. She's an absolutely lovely girl and if I could take her home I would, in a heartbeat. She's full of character and a smart little thing, who has got the pleading eyes down pat.

On this layout, I used filler cards from the Kraft Edition set, another freebie with the app. I will buy some soon, it's just so difficult to choose they're all so lovely. I also want to buy another set of templates, but to be honest I think the best ones are those you get free with the app.

I leave you with a final picture of Coco....you see what I mean about the eyes. This was the look we got as we were leaving to go home...she doesn't make it easy, but we love her.

They Charmed me!

I don't spend a fortune on my crafting addiction and I actually really enjoy searching out a bargain, especially if it's something a little different. As I have a bit of a thing for matchboxes of late I'm always on the lookout for some embellishments on the smaller side....and this week I came up trumps.

First up are these lovely little clock charms. I have a soft spot for clocks and watch embellishments, so for the bargain price of 99p I had to have them. These are approximately 2cm tall, perfect for my matchboxes and mini books and small enough to use on a layout too.

Next up, some Halloween charms. I want to do a couple of spooky projects this year and these are perfect, again just 99p. Now, I just need to get some skull charms.

And finally, I wanted some dog related charms as I have plans for a gift project for my mum, who absolutely adores her dogs. These cute little charms are just 1cm, but really sweet and just 49p for all you see here. These charm packs were all purchased on Ebay, still a great place to spot charms.

My last bargain this week is from The Works and I love it. As well as watches and clocks I also have a thing for locks and keys.....well, to be honest most charms....so how perfect are these and yet again just £1. They and all the charms are metal, so not a cheap plastic and gorgeous for embellishing boxes, layouts and minibooks.

So, that's it from me today, now I'm off to start searching for those skulls.

DCWV April stack-a-holic challenge

I'm a big fan of the DCWV stacks. I don't have many left as I tend to use them up fairly swiftly, but you know it's a good paper pack when you find yourself saving even the smallest scrap. Anyway, I read their blog regularly and have entered challenges in the past. So, when this one cropped up and I happened to have stumbled across the remains of The Luxury Stack and Brights Stack while doing a little tidying, it seemed only right to join in.

This is my effort and you can checkout the challenge here or if you prefer Facebook here.

The paper....well actually it's more like card....has a lovely sheen to it in the flesh. I cut the title on my Silhouette Cameo using font Nouradilla, which I downloaded from Dafont.com....a great font site. The snowflakes are die cut using the Xcut Snowflakes die set and glitter papers. Now I just have to wait and see if it makes the Top 10, which would be nice as I'd be in with a chance of some free goodies....wish me luck.

Paradise Found!

For our birthdays Ray and I always take time off and go out and about together. Movies, meals, art galleries, they've all been the site of a birthday celebration. Last year for my 49th I picked Paradise Wildlife Park for the big day....I love zoos! We had a great time, the sun was shining and I got to feed a reindeer and an emu...a first for me.

I used just a few of the photos from that day to knock up a layout on the bus this morning. I've still got loads to scrap and some of the photos have already made their way onto some traditional layouts.

If you're local to the Paradise Wildlife Park, pay it a visit and check out Groupon before you go as they often have deals on tickets. We only paid £9 each to get in and that includes a Birds of Prey exhibition too.

Luke....I am your auntie!

My gorgeous new nephew Luke is finally here and more importantly we got to meet him. Of course, I had the camera in tow, that will be a permenant fixture on any visits and I snapped a few photos of the handsome lad.

I'm going to try and keep regular photos of his first year and get photo books printed for my little brother (his dad!) and my mum and dad. I'll probably include a mix of app layouts and images, but we'll see how it pans out.

So, here we have it, the latest bus layout featuring the gorgeous Luke.

I decided to switch all the photos to black and white and I used cards from the Midnight Edition and a font that comes free with the app to co-ordinate.

Sketchy Sunday no.108

Due to the popularity of square images I'm sticking with squares for this week's sketch and being as I'm a big fan of layers I've included lots of those as well. These kind of designs are a great way to use up those scraps or pages from smaller paper pads. If your scraps aren't quite big enough don't forget you can hide joins under a layer.

If you prefer something a little busier, why not spritz the background or distress paper edges to add more texture.

Now, for a little blast from the past. As you may know I don't make many cards and this was one of my very first. I came across a photo of it today and decided to share, as I actually like it...unusual for me and my cards!

Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh my!

I had a few days off last week and as the weather was lovely on the Thursday, we headed off to a nearby park......plus we had to go for a long walk after the Chinese buffet on the Wednesday!

I took my DSLR with me as it hasn't been out much recently, apart from a brief outing to see our new nephew. Hainault Country Park is great as not only is it a large wooded area it also has Foxburrows Farm, a small petting zoo great for practicing my photography. I don't know about you, but sometimes I need to go and practice photography on something other than flowers and Ray can only take so much of me pointing a camera at him, although he would never say.... love him.

Anyway, as is usual lately, I put together a quick layout using the Project Life app on the bus journey to work and here it is.

Now, I really want to get some crafting done this weekend, so the plan is to finish a paper layout and maybe start on a matchbox....well, that's the plan. Lately I seem to keep losing time to organizing, but I think I've got the better of it now, so no excuse for not getting some projects finished...

Owls that!

I was taking a look through my blog photos and realised this little mini book had slipped through the net! I made this book from a pack of 6 x 6 cards, so it's very sturdy and has plenty of pockets.I'm not really a card maker, but I received cards regularly in my DT kit while designing for Docrafts, so mini books are a great way to use them.

The pages are really simple to make and I used an invisible hinge binding, attached to a chipboard spine and covers.

As the cards made the pages quite heavy on the spine I punched through the centre with by Big Bite and wove ribbon through and over the edges of the covers - those pages are going nowhere!

I really like the woven ribbon as not only does it strengthen the binding it also gives somewhere to hang charms too. The pockets are filled with mini envelopes and tags from the same design line. I embellished the cover with owls and lots of gems, charms, buttons and bling.

I still have some card packs to use up and will definitely be looking to make some more of these.

Scrapping for pennies

Just a quick post today, but I had to share this bargain from £land. They have quite a lot of Trimcraft packs from the 'A Beautiful Life' range. I pushed the boat out and picked up the 6 X 6 paper pack of 24 sheets and a pack of the gorgeous resin flowers.

And for those of you looking for a good movie do go and see The Jungle Book, it is a real 5star film, absolutely brilliant and wonderful on the big screen.

Happy Scrapping.

Tech-heads

Another bus journey, another layout......yes, those minutes that used to be used for listening to Paperclipping podcasts while staring like a wide-eyed weirdo out the window are now spent listening to those same podcasts while scrapping.....it's a revelation!

I think this layout is really sweet as it shows the fun relationship between Ray and Jake. I like how the order of the photos tell the story of Jake not being able to resist the game on Ray's iPhone, despite having the iPad to play with.... it was just too much of a techy lure.

I used filler cards from the School Themed set, a freebie on the app. I've yet to pay for a card set, not for the lack of temptation. Mind you, this situation is going to be short lived as I can't resist much longer! Talking of spending, I've been very good lately, only allowing myself a £10 budget for the month and that includes glue! But as you know, if you've been following my blog, I'm a bit of a bargain hunter and I'm determined to use as much of my current stash as I can. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a huge paper collection, but as with most crafters I have more than enough to be getting on with. It's just tricky resisting all the gorgeous collections I see out there, but I'm consoling myself lately with the remains of my DCWV Luxury Stack.......more of that soon.

So, there we have it, now I'm off to catch up with my other addiction..., my precious Tivo recordings.

Sketchy Sunday no. 107

This week's sketch was inspired by Sarah of stickerkitten fame. She's working with some square photos and it seemed only right to come up with a suitable sketch. So, here we have it, sketch no. 107.

It seems a lot of photo developers are printing square or retro style prints now, due in no small part to the popularity of Instagram. I usually print my photos at home on a Canon Selphy, but I'm thinking of trying Photobox for a photo book and some prints. If you have any tips on getting the best results do let me know.

You may have noticed a slight change to my blog, namely the addition of links to my Pinterest boards. Over time I hope to put all my sketches on the board, so you'll be able to see them all together for a full on dose of Sketchy Sunday inspiration. In the meantime, you can view previous sketches using the search facility on the right.

Happy Scrapping.

Movies watched this week:

Batman vs Superman:Dawn of Justice - dark superhero fun
The Hallow - British horror
Die Hard - dirty vested fun
Die Hard 2 - more dirty vested fun
The Legacy - creepy blast from the past
The Walk - well balanced story

It's coming up roses

On Wednesday I had a lovely day off work with Ray and we went out for lunch, followed by a trip to the cinema courtesy of Meerkat Movies.....that 2-4-1 deal has saved us a fortune. We saw Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, which we both loved, it's just great superhero fun. Anyway, to my point, afterwards we had a little stroll around the shops and I spotted the rose beads in Tiger for £1.

These beads will work on my little altered boxes and layouts, as they don't sit too proud off the page. They had individual coloured packets, but I went for a mult-coloured pack, just to get a bit of everything. They've got quite a good range of craft items in Tiger, as well as my beloved crystal effect magnets that I use for handles on boxes as shown here.

The crafty shopping trip continued in Hobbycraft, where I picked up the silver coloured beads, as they're the perfect shape for box feet and again only £1. These are part of a range of beads that are all £1 a string, so well worth a look.

Lastly, I must share these gorgeous metal box feet I picked up on ebay for £2.54 for eight. Now I just need to pick the perfect box to do them justice.

The Big Breakfast

OK, I admit it, I've fallen for the Project Life app. My bus journeys are now given over to trying out new layouts. I'm by no means giving up my paper scrapping or any of my other paper crafts, as I love sticking bits of paper together, but the bus journey is now new found crafty time! The app layouts just take the pressure off the memory keeping side of things. It leaves me free to select any photo I please, whenever I please, rather than feeling that I should really scrap a certain occasion first. At some point I think I'll have a photo book printed, but at the moment they'll live on my iPad, iPhone and laptop, as well as backup of course. Talking of backup, take this as a gentle reminder to backup your photo library.....I do try to do mine regularly, but a reminder never hurts.

Anyway, here's the latest app creation....I just had to document my gargantuan breakfast, not an everyday thing you understand, but a tasty treat now and again.

Blooming, Blinging, Bargain!

I love a bit of a bargain, so you can imagine my delight when I popped into one of my favourite hunting grounds, The Works and came across these little beauties, priced at a frugal £1 each.

The glitter is lovely, mainly pastel shades and the little bottles are great for altered art projects, with or without the contents. The resin flowers are quite a different mix of colours to others I've seen and I have these in mind for an altered matchbox in my near future. Having got them home, as usual, I wish I'd bought more.....still there's always the next foray.

Sketchy Sunday no.106

It's sketch time and this week's is a multi-photo sketch with a less structured design. I've included a few flourishes, as I can only stay away from them for so long before I start to get twitchy. After last week's big story sketch there's just a little room for a few lines on tags to finish this one off.

Now, for those of you who like an app....or 20!....I've just downloaded the Photobox app and it looks good, nice and simple for ordering. I've got plans to buy a photo book and the app comes with a discount code, which was an added bonus. Also, if you've downloaded the Project Life app I mentioned on a previous post, browse through the kits available and you'll find some of the them are free.....The Cherry Edition for instance.

Enjoy the weekend.

Mockingjay Part 2 - Sci-Fi adventure

Life in Malibu!

I'm attempting to complete the April Blog Challenge on 2peasrefugees - it's a big ask for me as it's 21 posts. So, in pursuit of this I've found myself trying to carve out some extra crafty time. Then I had a brainwave.....yes, it did hurt.....I spend a fair bit of time on the bus every day, to and from work, usually listening to podcasts. So, how could I create on the bus? Then I remembered I'd downloaded the Project Life app when it first came out... if I'm honest, I downloaded it because it was free! Anyway, I tried it out with the baby pics and really enjoyed it and I loved the page, which you can see here. So, that's it, I'm sold on the Project Life app and to prove it here's page number two.

The problem now is to control my lust for all the digital add ons!

WOYWW 357

It's Wednesday and that can only mean it's WoYWW, so hello there fellow desk travellers. Thanks for stopping by to have a nose around my compact craft area. If you haven't heard of this weekly hop before take a look here to learn all about it.

I've been doing a spot of painting, altering a wooden box. I removed the hardware and have just given it a first coat. I like the hardware so much I might buy another box just to get some for a different project. I intend to make a mini album to go inside the box once it's finished.

I've also almost finished the little three drawer set you can see on the tray too. I'm just trying to decide whether to put feet on it and maybe some flowers or a charm cluster on the top. Next to the tray is a stack of paper and cardstock I want to use to create some layouts, a few of the photos in the running are on the top of it.

So that's a glimpse into what I'm up to, now I'm off to see what everyone else is doing.

Happy Scrapping.

He's got the look!

I was chuffed to pieces yesterday, as we finally got to meet our new nephew Luke.....my brother, his Dad, is a huge Star Wars fan. I've been kept calm with photo updates from the proud parents while waiting till we could visit. So, to get my baby scrap fix, on the bus to work I used the photos they sent me to knock up a little digital layout using the Project Life app on my iPhone. This is the first time I've used the app and I have to admit it was a very easy and fun way to create a page. I may use it to create some more and print them for a mini book.

We are so the proud Aunt and Uncle and he's a gorgeous little boy who's already mastering the 'Look' as this pic proves.

Just had to share.

Sketchy Sunday no.105

The sun is shining and I'm soon to meet my new nephew......at long last.....we've had colds for a couple of weeks and finally we're sniffle free and fit to meet the new arrival. My lovely lil' bruv has been keeping me in the loop with photos, so at least I know what the little one looks like, but I'm champing at the bit to meet him.

Now, what with all the lovely baby pics that are sure to follow I'll be needing more sketches....smooth segue, don't you think?........and so here we have no.105.

As my scrapping is moving into a more story based format I wanted to create a sketch with room for a longer narrative. Of course, you could fill that journaling space with paint effects and just have a big title, so it still works even if you prefer to just have a date and brief comment. As always, sketches are just a jumping off point and the final layout may hardly resemble the original sketch at all....mine often don't.

So, that's it from me for today. Just let me mention the new show on Amazon Prime, Fear the Walking Dead, it's great and if you're a Walking Dead fan, a must see. Have a lovely Sunday and make time to do something just for you.

Happy Scrapping.

movies watched this week:

Pay the Ghost - Nicholas Cage ghost story
He Never Died - supernatural thriller
Unlikely Hero - quirky comedy drama
Murder Most Foul - starring the wonderful Margaret Rutherford, it's a classic.

Birthday Boy

I don't know about you, but I find layouts the most difficult things to photograph, it doesn't help that there isn't really great light in my apartment..... I really must sort out some better lighting for shooting. As we've finally had some decent weather I was able to photograph my latest layout outside, this always makes it easier.

This clean and simple page, the subject of my lovely dad's birthday, uses floral papers balanced with a dark brown background. I'm not worried about using flowers for masculine subject matter and I'm sure Dad won't mind either. Recently I've been trying to use up some of my stack of coloured cardstock. I find it easy to use blue, green or red, but other colours can be a little challenging. Not that I have a huge amount, I'm not really a stash collector, but I do like to get a fairly quick turnaround on what I have...there's just too much lovely stuff out there......hence the layered brown and yellow background which gives the added bonus of a little weight to the page, making it easier to place in an album.

The layered title was cut on my Silhouette Cameo. Cutting welded words is so simple to do, it's literally a couple of clicks and makes creating a unique title that much easier. The script font I used for "Birthday" is called bromello and for "DAD's" I used Accord Light SF.

I used sketch no.73 as a starting point and stuck fairly close, I just didn't use as many embellishments and moved my journaling.

I'm definitely getting back to scrapping regularly, although I'm popping to the shop to pick up some matchboxes in a few minutes for a spot of altering...

Happy Scrapping.
